Counseling Services

1. Individual counseling sessions are to be provided according to treatment plan at the discretion of the case manager for the duration of no less than fifty (50) minutes per session. The hours actually provided may be on the bases according to the needs of the participants and program requirements. Individual counseling is face-to-face.

2. Group counseling sessions are 1.5 hours in duration and are conducted daily from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The case manager will utilize reasonable methods to communicate with the participant if she is unable to attend the program counseling session. All methods used to contact the participant are to be documented. At the end of the second week, a Notice in Lapse of Contact and Services will be sent requesting that the participant contact the case manager within seven (7) business days. A returned self-addressed and stamped envelop will be included. If the participant fails to respond and does not attend the required counseling sessions before the end of the 30 day period, the participant will be automatically discharged from the program.

3. Educational Groups consist of:

A. Parenting

The goal of the parenting classes is to increase a participants understanding and acknowledgement of her child's growth and development as well as learned parenting skills needed to raise children in a healthy environment. A desired outcome of this group is to have the participant understand the importance of the necessary and healthy bond between mother and child.

El Proyecto utilizes the Center for the Improvement of Child Caring: Los Niňos Bien Educados curriculum, which provides a culturally and linguistically sensitive approach to parenting.

B. Health Education

Prenatal health education group will focus on issues related to the participant's personal health, effects of drug and alcohol abuse on the fetus, information on health care and attainment skills to ensure a healthy family unit. The focus of the health education group will be on health care, combating postpartum depression, birth control, HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections (diseases). The overall goal of the health care component will be to empower participants to advocate for their own health care for that of their children.

C. Life Skills

The focus of this group is to develop skills necessary to return or begin job search, hold successful interviews, wear appropriate attire, and to develop interpersonal skills, money management, etc.

D. Relapse Prevention

This group will focus on reinforcing the skills of identifying three primary motives, based on self sufficiency, for her to stay off drugs and alcohol and to make a commitment to work with her 12 step sponsor.

E. Domestic Violence

Our program identifies Domestic Violence as a major problem. Group focuses on educating participants on the Dynamics of Domestic Violence, breaking the cycle of violence and safety measures while in an abusive relationship and after.

F. Peer Support

Focuses on the COMADRE concept. This group promotes support, encouragement, self-worth, self sufficiency, boundaries, conflict resolution and living a healthy, drug-free life style.
